The Recomputing Lab at Loyola University Chicago explores what computing would look like if e-waste was not an inevitable.

We examine the environmental, social, and political impacts of computing infrastructure. Our work reenvisions what the terrain of computing could look like: in improving our ability to recycle electronic waste, reduce wasteful consumption of electronic devices and material, and opt to resist and refuse computing technology when we do not consent to their application. We apply an interdisciplinary approach to our research combining technical expertise in computer science and electrical/computer engineering with sociotechnical analysis (human-computer interaction and science and technology studies).

The recomputing lab is led by Jasmine Lu (Assistant Professor of Computer Science), and is in search of enthusiastic students, community partners, and tech workers who are excited about our work.
